Victoria BC-based drummer and songwriter Michael Wilford returns with his single, Rattle My Bones, featuring Sail Cassady.
Wilford — primarily known as a hired gun and drummer for the likes of Sarah Osborne, Old Soul Rebel, and Sail Cassady — holsters the drumsticks to take on the roll of songwriter, composer, and producer on his own music.
After amassing acclaim with his debut single, Scotch, which featured Old Soul Rebel’s Chelsea D.E Johnson, Wilford stretches his legs with the uncanny Rattle My Bones.
Rattle My Bones is evocative of winding roads passing coniferous trees with changing leaves as a fall mist settles while you near your destination: long-forgotten ghost town.
While west coast singer-songwriter Sail Cassady’s brooding baritone takes centre stage on Rattle My Bones, it’s the haunting urgency to the strings, eerie piano, and ghostly backing vocals that solidify the cinematic songwriting.
“Rattle My Bones was written during and in response to the loneliness that came from the periods of pandemic-driven self-isolation during the winter of 2020. The song characterizes my depression and anxiety as a ghost in my closet but treats the heavy subject with a wink and a nod as the ghost ends up being a ‘nice surprise’ due to the break from the monotony. It is perfect for the crisp autumn weather (and the seasonal depression that comes with it) and its instantly singable chorus about ‘ghosts in your closet’ fits nicely with the upcoming Halloween season.”
