Victoria, British Columbia-based electro indie-pop outfit, Cold Fame return with one last slice of summer with their new single, If That’s Love.
We are just shy of a year since Cold Fame hit our radar with their debut single, tuesday. Since then the band has put out several fun indie-pop singles and grown a dedicated following. During that time Cold Fame has grown by adding vocalist Jodi Pederson as a permanent member. Not only did Pederson grow the band from a duo to a trio but elevated their sound and songwriting.
If That’s Love grabs your attention from its onset. Touching on the complexities of young love while remaining a catchy synth-driven pop song. Touching on the likes of Paramore and The 1975 with Damian Anthony’s guitar work and indie-rock sensibilities.
Lyrically, If That’s Love feels like a time machine. Capturing those moments we’ve forgotten from a first romance and remembering them fondly before being hurt. If That’s Love stays boisterous and upbeat throughout. It’s a refreshing take on a familiar subject.
The accompanying music video for If That’s Love is a splash of summer fun. The video sees lifeguard, Cody Dalman terrorized by fellow bandmates Jodi Pederson, Damian Anthony and friends at a local pool in the height of summer. Directed by Sergej Krivenko (It’s a Thing Imagery).
“The song explores the complexities of young love in an upbeat tempo that projects the hopeful tone of the lyrics while exploring the theme of living with no regrets. With lyrics such as “They say this love, it’s doomed, it’s wild and reckless… But if that’s love, I guess I’ll take my chances” – the song suggests letting go of what other people say and think and just enjoying being young and having fun!”
