Presented by MRG Live, The Darcys (Toronto, ON) were joined by Vancouver band Fake Shark (formerly
known as Fake Shark – Real Zombie!) on Wednesday, March 30th at Lucky Bar in Victoria B.C.
For many in attendance, it was likely their first concert in over two years. With masks now being optional,
only a handful of attendees wore masks, making things feel like it was 2019 all over again.
Fake Shark took to the stage to kick off the night. Their stage setup was complete with a fan (of the non-
human variety) set up in front of Kevvy so that his long blonde hair blew around throughout their set.
Bassist Tony expertly finger-plucked bass lines on an upside-down, left-handed guitar, while drummer
Alexander kept the beat with the precision of a studio musician. Rounded out by guitarist Louis (also a member of Vancouver’s Blonde Diamond), Fake Shark got the crowd warmed up.
After a quick turnover, The Darcys took to the stage. Clad in a tropical shirt, drummer Wes kept the beat
with a mix of real drums and electronic drum pads.Accompanied by bass and keyboard backing tracks, guitarist Jason played and belted out their hits such as Coming Up for Air, and Running for the Hills. Even though they were missing Leah Fay’s (July Talk) vocals on Just Here with My Friends, it sounded amazing live.
After an engaging set, The Darcys closed out the night with an encore, playing a cover of Crowded House’s
Don’t Dream It’s Over.
