Victoria’s Towers and Trees have exclusively shared their latest single, “The Dark,” with us here at Rocktographers. The song follows up their first single, “Head Down Heart Up,” released earlier in 2018. Both songs are to be featured on their as-yet untitled full length album, due out in 2019.
So many of life’s biggest, toughest choices are shrouded in uncertainty, and there’s a very human tendency to want to retreat back to the comfort of what we know, like huddling by a dim lantern in a vast, dark field. But what if we could overcome our fear of the dark and learn to navigate through it with boldness?
This is the story behind our latest single, “The Dark,” which we are so excited and honoured to share with you today. “The Dark is about finding the courage to move boldly forward in life, even when uncertainty and adversity shroud your steps in darkness,” says Towers and Trees frontman and songwriter Adrian Chalifour. “It’s a lesson I need to learn daily, and for that reason, the song means a great deal to me personally, and to this group as we continue to find our way on this journey.”
The group’s second outing with acclaimed producer Ryan Worsley (whose work with Juno-Award winning Dear Rouge recently topped Canadian alternative charts), The Dark combines lush, ’80s-inspired tones with a modern pop-rock sensibility, offering a subtle tip-of-the-cap to classic forebears like Bruce Cockburn’s “Lovers in a Dangerous Time” and Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer.” The result is a driving power-pop ballad that is both optimistic and melancholy, poetic and story-driven, personal and universal.
Towers and Trees is currently working on a completing a new full-length album with Ryan Worsley.
