Spring is here! As the days seem brighter and full of new life so does The Zone @ 91-3’s Band of The Month for April, Alle.
Tofino-based singer-songwriter, Alle, is a spectacle of positivity and passion for her craft. Weaving intricate and soulful tapestries into each one of her songs.
On the first nice day of spring, Rocktographers set out looking for cherry blossoms, blue skies, laughs, and pink elephants with The Zone @ 91-3’s Band of the Month, Alle.
Tyson Elder: Alle, Welcome to the Band of the Month for April.
Alle: Thank you so much, Tyson.
TE: No problem. They you for coming and chatting next to… Rutley? [aforementioned pink elephant]
Alle: Rutley in Rutledge Park. [laughs] He’s so great to have. I’m so stoked he could make it. [laughs]
TE: Your Band of the Month single is, Break Strong. It came out it 2020, I believe.
Alle: Yes it did.
TE: Can you tell me a little bit about the song?
Alle: Absolutely. Break Strong was originally written about a huge breakup that I’d gone through. So I thought, what better time to write and sort of get all the pain and all of the hurt flushed out of my system into some lyrics. It actually propelled me into writing some more quite soulful ballads – now into my next generation of songs and what I’m about to release. It really reached out to a lot of people in hard times in their lives. It connected me to my fans on a deeper level and I’m forever grateful for that song. I’m excited that it’s the feature.
TE: I really dig it. It’s got that night driving vibe to it which you mention at the beginning of the song. It’s got a bit of Lana Del Ray to it. I think it’s going to really catch a lot of people off guard on The Zone this month.
TE: Talking about new music coming – is it Chasing the Light?
Alle: Chase the Sun, yes! Is my next one.
TE: Sorry, Chase the Sun. Tell me about that and when does it come out?
Alle: So, Chase the Sun is coming to all streaming platforms on Friday, April 7th. I changed around the release date because of when I found out I was going to be Band of the Month. I thought, what better time? I actually wrote the song for my sister. She’s older than me by two years and we used to travel around since we were like, I don’t even know, 12 years old. We were in CISV, which was a local program here and it just propelled us into the world of travel. She’s always been my best friend in all of that and I thought, what better time now that to release something all about our adventures together. That’s coming out soon.
TE: That’s great. And with your new music coming out, I recently learned that former Band of the Month Vince Vaccaro produces all of your music. How did you came about working with Vince?
Alle: [laughs] Vince and I became friends back when I first moved to Tofino from Victoria. I was about 21 years old and the first time I worked with him it was with my good friend Mike Jennings – we actually worked together as a duo for a couple years. I just ended up reaching out to him [Vince] one day realizing I have so much material that’s just been sitting in my voice memos that I want to bring to human life, to reality, and to another form. When I thought of who I’d wanted to work with, I immediately thought of Vince. Since then I’ve written and worked with him since I was 23 years old. I’m very grateful to have him in my life.
TE: Wow, that’s amazing. Do you guys go for like surf breaks now? [both laugh]
Alle: Yeah, we do! [laughs] We’ve definitely had moments where we go on surf breaks, we go out for Noodle Box together, we do the classic pull an all nighter, grab some Noodle Box, grab some beers, hang out in the studio, and we write music together. He also gives me feedback that helps me grow as an artist and also as a person. He’s taught me a lot of really important details to know about pursuing music and I’ve very very grateful for him to be in my life. He’s incredible. [laughs]
TE: He’s an amazing dude. I’ve known Vince since I was like 23 [laughs] maybe even younger. We came up in the scene together and Vince is a great guy.
TE: What else do you have going on? You’ve got a show at The Duke Saloon.
Alle: I’m so excited. Obviously today feels like spring and I’m grateful for that. It’s called Spring Thing and it’s hosted by Whistle Buoy Brewing. They’re going to have tons of cans of their delicious brews. [laughs] If you’re a beer drinker, then it’s for you. We’re going to be playing at The Duke Saloon on Thursday, April 6th and tickets are available now. It’s going to be myself opening the night, then The Projectors and a really incredible DJ: Blacasphalt. It’s going to be a super packed night of music and I’m going to be debuting my first single before I release it the next day. [laughs]
TE: That’s great, and The Projectors were actually Band of the Month in January so that kind of cool to see all that coming together.
Alle: I’m so stoked.
TE: Well, thank you so much for chatting with us, taking photos with us all day and hanging out with Rutley here.
Alle: Thanks, Rutley! Thanks so much!
