Winter Blues at Biltmore Cabaret

On a rainy December evening in Vancouver (typical!), four of the city’s finest emo/alternative acts got together to play a stellar show at the Biltmore Cabaret.

Seablush played a high energy — yet equally delicate — set, showcasing tracks from their debut EP “Elizabeth” as well as some from their upcoming album, due out in 2020. Tracks such as No Sleep and Elizabeth are standouts, and showcase the best parts of the band’s energetic live performance.

Vancouver mainstay Andrew Phelan, who describes his music as “loud sad songs”, played a riveting set, joining the crowd and closing with audience sing-along That’s How. The whole room was all smiles for his infectious energy and charm.

Indie-emo rockers Altona delivered a powerful punch, moving around with ease and warming things up for Evan Konrad to hit the stage and captivate the audience with haunting vocals and lyricism. Backed by pulsing light bars, laser lights and smoke machines, Konrad delivered an inspiring set for those who stuck around until the very end.

This Winter Blues showcase felt like hanging out with a bunch of your best friends, and proved that Vancouver’s emo/alternative scene is alive and strong. We can’t wait to see what all four bands get up to next. Spring showcase, anyone?
