John Carlow was at Upstairs Cabaret for a remarkable double header with Victoria band, BUM opening for Vancouver’s Pointed Sticks.
It was a homecoming of sorts for both Pointed Sticks and BUM on June 12th, 2015. BUM’s first live show was at Upstairs (known then as the rather infamous Harpos). For Pointed Sticks , it was 1979 when they made their Victoria debut; a three night stand at Harpos that ended after one show. They were shown the door being “ too punk rock.”
On the eve of a new CD release for Pointed Sticks, it was clear both bands were ready to ramp it up for the faithful who had packed the venue. Indeed I can’t remember the last time I heard a crowd sing back an old song word for word , with volume in a venue this size.
An easy night for security. A good night for CD and T shirt sales. Was a night of positive vibes, dance and happy faces both on and off the stage.
