On July 1st, to celebrate Canada’s 149th birthday, roughly 70,000 guests packed the the lawns of the BC Legislature for arguably Victoria’s biggest Canada Day party in years.
The all-day Canada Day celebration included acts like the lovely Fox Glove serenading the crowds of Victoria, Laura Mitic of Carmanah and Jon Williams hosting the stage and getting up to their usual hijinks, George Leach shredding the 12-string double neck Gibson, and a French-Acadian hip-hop duo, Radio Radio who got the crowd into the party mood before Mother Mother took the stage.
Mother Mother returned to Victoria to thrill the faithful before heading to close out the Tall Tree Music Festival the next day. The band played a refreshingly high-energy set that ended way too early to make way for the night’s main event: the fireworks.
What’s a birthday without explosions? This year’s fireworks display over the Inner Harbour was once again synced up to one of The Zone @ 91.3’s DJ Boitano’s live modern rock mixtapes, keeping the party going while everyone stared up in awe.
