Hailing from Victoria, BC – Canadian rocker Jesse Roper has released his first single, “Right Now” from the forthcoming album, Horizons.
Many know Jesse Roper for his blues-infused guitar rock, wild stage presence and as being solid beam of positivity. Not only has his raw and unbridled talent as songwriter and musician made him a household name on the West Coast but his openness to connect with his fans on a personal level.
“Right Now” is a chant – a call to rise above the growing divisiveness that is currently tearing America apart from within. There is no doubt in who Jesse Roper is referencing in his lyrics “this is our man and this is what he tweets.”
While not as rambunctious as previous singles like “Red Bird,” “Cherry” or “Gotta Have It” it has that quintessential Jesse Roper heart and soul. Taking a step away from his notorious guitar solos to shine the spotlight on what is going on in the world right now in a way only The Metchosin One can.
As the song comes to end its not hard to heed Jesse’s message as a distant air raid siren is heard while he declares “This is our world, divided for another day.”
“Right Now” is a social commentary about the division between the masses currently facing our world. Recorded with Gus Van Go and Werner F (Arkells, Hollerado, The Trews), I found myself going in a political direction. Something new for me so I was a little nervous.
Written from an observational standpoint, there’s damage being done from errant comments by the leader of the United States; serving to divide the country, with more focus on his own legacy than America’s.
The news is blown up with stories of right vs left, rich vs poor, and the division in the people. Maybe I’m just getting old and paying more attention. Maybe it’s owning a wireless device that spits the headlines at me everyday, but things don’t seem united down south.
The world has been crazy as far back as history can recount. I want to rock the fuck out, sing things into a microphone that I believe, and crush guitar riffs I love playing.
