The Otalith Music Festival is hands down one of Rocktographers’ favourite music festivals. Don’t believe us? Here is last year’s review and photo mega post.

Otalith Music Festival runs August 19th and 20th, 2016 in Ucluelet, BC.

Ucluelet and Tofino’s Otalith Festival harnesses the intimacy of smaller community-based festivals — with the appeal of camping and destination festivals — without having to leave Vancouver Island.

Good people, great food, and even better beer is almost as plentiful as the gorgeous scenery and surfing that is a stone’s throw from Otalith.

Once again, Otalith has pulled together an eclectic festival with some top tier acts that we just don’t see in the Victoria area. Their melting pot of a lineup pulls from every genre including hip-hop, street punk, indie, campfire jams, psychedelic, DJ sets, dad rock, and funk to make a glorious stew of a festival.

For the fourth year the festival has pulled out all the stops with Americana band Shakey Graves  making their first and only Vancouver Island appearance of the summer with two sets at Otalith. One of those performances is just for the keeners who got early bird tickets.

The return of LA’s skate punk band Fidlar to the Island will be something else judging on how rowdy the crowd got for Jon and Roy last year (ask Tyson about his bruised ribs).

The bill also includes Portland’s psychedelic noise rockers, The Shivas. People Under The Stairs, Sonny and the Sunsets, Vinyl Ritchie, Band of Rascals, and Barefoot Thieves are among the over a dozen bands already announced to perform with a promise of more to come.

Camping is already 2/3. Get on it or you are going to miss one fun party. Late night campfire jams, keg stands, some guy snoring loudly, and s’mores. There are lots of campsites and places to stay in the Ucluelet and Tofino area, but book early. They will sell out. There is a shuttle and bus service to get you around after a few beverages.
