Croatia is a three-piece Victoria synth-pop band who ain’t afraid of no ’80s.
Matt Dell (Guitar/Synths) and Steve Mitchell (Synths/Pads/Drums) helm the instrumental workings of the band, while the gloriously low-ranged Tashiina Buswa kills the lyrics with her passionate vocals. They were joined by drummer Alex Campbell to round out their sound.
But despite the stereotypes of their instrumentation, Croatia’s sound reaches crunchy lows while mixed with electronic highs. It’s great music to become lost in. At once layered, grand, enveloping, and powerful.
Their debut LP — I Wish I Could Be Holy — will be released on August 13th, 2016, featuring 8 new songs. It was produced in town by Adam Sutherland at Infinity Studios.
Croatia performed Sunset and Dark Blue inside Vinyl Envy, a cool little record store-slash-concert space on Quadra Street.
