For many Victorians, Fernwood is the beating heart of our garden city. Just saying Fernwood Square evokes feelings of cobblestone paths, alternative theatre, great coffee, amazing pizza, friends, and maybe a pint or two.
For the Rocktographers, Fernwood was an opportunity to explore some of our city’s heritage and unmistakable architecture while working with alt-rock band, Smash Boom Pow.
Sometimes our Band of the Month photo shoots feel like a blind date where you don’t exactly know who you are looking for. While Tyson and Webmeister Bud chatted about our ideas for the shoot we wondered where Smash Boom Pow was. It turned out that Ulysses and Zane had been sitting on a bench less than twenty-five feet from us.
When we eventually met each other we were pleasantly surprised to find out that the pair were in fact brothers. We chatted about their time in the Peak Performance Project a few years earlier while having a leisurely stroll and photo shoot around Fernwood, eventually making our way to Victoria High School to take advantage of the warm light and their bleachers.
Find out more about the band and download three of their songs for free on The Zone’s website.
