The Zone’s Band of the Month · Hush Hush Noise

Hush Hush Noise is a Victoria-based duo featuring music scene mainstay Lily Fawn and recording engineer Eric Hogg. Together they make strange but beautiful tapestries of sound. Lily and Eric are also two of the sweetest and most genuine people Rocktographers has had the pleasure of working with for Band of the Month.

We started our photo shoot at this lovely plant shop in the heart of downtown Victoria called, Biophilia. Earlier in the week, we stumbled across some gorgeous photos on Instagram of a friend shopping in the store, and we instantly knew we wanted to use it as a location. By the end of our time there, Lily Fawn walked out with a cute little air plant and the rest of us vowed to be back soon for all of our plant needs. Tyson wants a cactus, because they are prickly like him.

After we uprooted from Biophilia we made our way to Studio Robazzo to lean into the band’s mod look and have some high flying fun.

For Hush Hush Noise’s Band of The Month photoshoot, we wanted to go big or go home, and what’s bigger than pyrotechnics?

Only, we couldn’t afford gigantic flaming cannons so we got the next best thing… sparklers.

As we set up the shots, Lily Fawn shared a story about sparklers from when she was performing at a festival with Carolyn Mark. Before the show, they decided it would be a good idea to attach a bunch of sparklers to a hula hoop, light them, and start hula hooping while performing. As you can imagine, something fairly unexpected happened: Lily’s dress caught on fire and she was quickly doused in a bucket of water by the stage crew. Clearly, things didn’t go as planned, but she got one hell of a story out of it.

Later this month, you can catch Hush Hush Noise’s Twin Peaks-themed side project Songs From The Black Lodge February 24th at The Copper Owl, part of the annual Twin Peaks Festival. Hush Hush Noise will also be playing a show at Northern Quarter with Wise Child on March 1st.
