Minneapolis’ Rhymesayers crew came to Victoria September 13th to promote co-founder Atmosphere’s latest release Fishing Blues to a sold out crowd at Sugar Nightclub. Accompanying Atmosphere were label mates Brother Ali and deM atlaS.

When I arrived, deM atlaS was already rapping to a packed house. Every time I shoot a show featuring groups that don’t get a lot of mainstream attention, I’m always blown away by how many true hip-hop heads there are in Victoria – watching a packed crowd rap along in unison to a lesser known artists gives me a newfound hope for hip-hop.

Next up was Brother Ali, who has played Victoria a few times, and in that time earned the respect of many Victorians with his late 80’s early 90’s inspired style. The room went nuts as soon as soon as the beat for crowd favourite “Forest Whitaker” started playing.

Slug and Ant of Atmosphere came to the stage to a tremendous roar from the audience, playing crowd favourites amongst material off their recently released album, Fishing Blues.

If you weren’t fortunate enough to make it to the show, next time Rhymesayers come to town don’t wait to cop your ticket – it’ll sell out quickly again!
